Channel index variables are those features that do not change directly as a function of flow: substrate, cover, and embeddedness. These variables were recorded for each cell along the transects according to the following classification system:
Substrate was described by the dominant and sub-dominant subtrate classes present,
Cover was described by all types present within a cell, and
Embeddedness was ranked by quartile.
